Line/Prep Cook

The Loma Mar Outpost, a nonprofit community store and café, is looking for a skilled and dependable Line/Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. If you love working with locally sourced ingredients, making great food from scratch, and being part of a tight-knit rural community, this could be the job for you!

About The Position
We’re seeking a motivated cook with at least 2 years of grill or line experience who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen. You should be organized, reliable, and ready to pitch in wherever needed—and a good sense of humor is always welcome!

Weekend availability is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items using established recipes and consistent high standards

  • Maintain food safety, cleanliness, and organization throughout the kitchen

  • Follow established prep lists and daily task lists

  • Communicate effectively with teammates and management

  • Support a positive, safe, and efficient kitchen environment

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of grill/line cook experience

  • ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain before start of first shift)

  • Strong knife and prep skills; comfortable with kitchen tools and equipment

  • Ability to work independently and stay calm under pressure

  • English fluency required

  • Friendly, professional, and comfortable interacting with customers and coworkers

  • Share feedback, ideas, and safety concerns openly with management

  • Adaptable and flexible as priorities shift — initiative is a must!

  • Contributes to a respectful, supportive workplace

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, move quickly, and stay active for the full shift

  • Lift or carry up to 30 pounds; bend, kneel, reach, and use hands frequently

  • Occasionally climb stairs or use step ladders/stools.

Work Environment
This position is in an open kitchen and store setting, therefore we must always be aware of how we are seen and heard by our customers. Surfaces may occasionally be wet or slippery, and temperatures can vary with the seasons. The noise level is generally quiet to moderate. Work involves regular use of, and proximity to, common commercial cleaning agents.
